3. Write in the words "I support the above Planning Application" and then feel free to add anything else that you want to say.

Suggestions for what to include in your letter

Please write the letter in your own words. The important part is that you start by stating that the letter is in support of the Planning Application. After that you can add what you like, but in case you need some tips on what to include, these have been popular reasons why people have supported speedway in the past:

a - Perry Barr is the spiritual home of Speedway in Birmingham with racing having been staged since 1928.

b - Speedway has more support than any other regular sport in the City of Birmingham, other than football.

c - There has never been any crowd trouble, nor the need for either a police presence or segregation of rival supporters at speedway meetings.

d - Speedway is a family sport which sees fans of many generations enjoying an exciting evening out together.

e - The club and it’s supporters over the past three years has raised nearly £10,000 for numerous worthy causes, and is right now supporting and raising awareness of Birmingham Children's Hospital.

f - Speedway brings in people to Perry Barr from all over the world, who are a benefit to the local economy.

g - The "Birmingham Brummies" are the only sports team to have won a major national tournament in recent years, bringing sporting glory to the City of Birmingham.

h - The last opinion poll carried out showed that over 94% of the citizens of Birmingham supported the presence of speedway at Perry Barr.

i - More people around the country know about Perry Barr as a result of Speedway than as a result of Athletics at the Alexander Stadium.

j - feel free to add your own points too, but please refrain from "rubbishing" opponents in a disrespectful manner. They have a right to their opinions even if we don't agree with them.

Envelope Suggestions

Please address the envelope to:
Tracey Humphreys,
Planning Service
Birmingham City Council
PO Box 28
Alpha Tower
Suffolk Street Queensway
Birmingham
B1 1TU

Please mark the envelope "Private and Confidential" and also "For Recipient's Eyes Only". This way the letter has to be opened by Tracey Humphreys and not her administration staff.

Letter of Support to your own City Councilor

It would be a great idea if you could also send a copy of this letter to your own local City Councilor and ask him / her to take it to the Planning Department on your behalf. If you don't know who your Councillors are, then CLICK HERE for the page on the Birmingham City Council Web Site that has all the details. You can obtain your Councilors names and by clicking in your Ward in the menu on the left, you can obtain their postal and e-mail addresses.
